There is no such thing as bad PR. But the true test of Mylie Cyrus’ stunt will be record sales.

When I heard everyone expressing their horror at the Miley Cyrus “event” on the VMAs I said this to my wife and son – “it was a well thought out (and maybe desperate) act to be relevant again, to get people to talk about her and no one else.”

I always say there is “no bad PR”. Case in point, Miley Cyrus.

Barbara Lippert said virtually the same in her madblog:

“In the end, Cyrus’ VMA act was desperate and upsetting, but also as shrewd a business move as she could make. It’s up there with Madonna kissing Britney — to be expected, since apparently she and Britney share a manager.

Up against all those other big-time acts — and even Kanye got lost in the noise! — no one would’ve noticed her little song, had she not repulsed everyone with her dark servicing of the stage demons. Now it’s all anyone can talk about, till the next star ramps up a shocker.”

The true test here will be if she realizes any increased record sales. My guess would be no.
